  • Essential Business Designation

Minnesota enacted a Shelter from Home order effective March 27, 2020.  The procedure for determining Essential Business designation relies on NAICS classification.

    Our general guidance to members:

    • Review the CISA standard.
    • Do your due diligence - obtain letters of essential status from your customers, if applicable.
    • If you believe you meet the CISA standard (or have been told you do by your customers), remain operational until you’re clearly told otherwise.
    • Produce letters to your employees that they can keep on their person when traveling to and from work.
    • Go to https://mn.gov/deed/critical/ if you are unsure if you meet the standard, or if you need to apply for a waiver if you don’t meet the standard, but believe you should be deemed essential. You will need to know your NAICS codes.
    • DEED's statement is that if you meet the criteria, you do NOT need to apply for approval/waiver.
